Overview
Jay Community Center / Boomer Youth
Programs are geared toward providing sporting activities
for the youth of Jay County and surrounding communities.
Generally, these programs are offered for children starting
at the Pre-school age and progressing thru High School
age children. It is the goal of the Jay Community Center
to offer these sport-based programs in a manner that
is consistent with developing a child’s character
to a higher standard through sports. The staff of the
Jay Community Center emphasizes fair play in a competitive
environment. Acknowledging that Americans love to compete,
win or lose, we feel that it is our responsibility to
teach children to understand the concept of being good
sports.

Basic Skills
It is the belief of the Jay Community Center that when
the basic skills of a sport are taught in a correct
fashion and attention to detail for each sport is properly
followed, a child’s appreciation for that sport
will grow. We also believe that when a child sees improvement
in his or her skills within a particular sport, they
will then experience a since of accomplishment allowing
them to have a more positive self image.

Coaching
Jay Community Center continually concentrates on involving
volunteers in coaching positions who are knowledgeable
about each particular sport offered. This in turn will
enable each child’s experience to be the best
it can be in the sport that they are involved in. We
encourage coaches to emphasize great sportsmanship at
all levels of the child’s development in a given
sport.

Fitness
The Boomer Youth Sports activities offered through the
Jay Community Center are excellent ways for children
to understand the benefits that sports have to offer
to them throughout life. Children are not only benefiting
from gaining knowledge about each particular sport,
but they are also receiving important physical exercise
as well, helping to lead them to a healthier, productive
lifestyle. |
